Films and Documentaries
The founders of Cam Rivers have had a decades-long interest in filmmaking as well as the creation of documentaries for academic and personal reasons alike. We have amassed thousands of hours of filmed content of various scholars, thinkers and innovators.
Alan Macfarlane’s Filming History
Macfarlane’s self-taught videography skills have aided him greatly in furthering his knowledge of groups in the Himalayas, Japan and China. He has always been at the forefront of creating and preserving visual history. His archives include over a century of films and other records.
Artists, Poets, and Musicians
Over the years, we have interviewed many artists from across the spectrum of disciplines: poets, dramatists, painters, sculptors, musicians, and singers. This work shines a spotlight on the creative process of these people and explores their journey through the art world.
Leading Thinkers
Archival interviews with leading scientists, anthropologists, economists, ethno-musicologists, international travellers and others. Mostly interviewed and filmed by Professor Alan Macfarlane, with summaries and context provided by Sarah Harrison, and assistance from Dr Mark Turin and Zilan Wang.
