编者按
前不久，我写信给老朋友、法语文学理论界的泰斗克里斯托弗院士，问他此刻在哪里。他说正在法国南部普罗旺斯Mont Ventoux（瓦图山）的乡下别墅小住，顺便发来了一张窗外的照片：粉橘色的晚霞，笼罩着白雪皑皑的山顶。
我说：您给我们读一首诗吧，读您最近喜欢的。
他回答：这番疫情之下，那就来读一读波德莱尔的《忧郁》（Spleen）。
这首诗，选自法国诗人、象征派诗歌的先驱、现代派之奠基者、散文诗的鼻祖——夏尔·皮埃尔·波德莱尔（Charles Pierre Baudelaire）的代表作《恶之花》（Les Fleurs du mal）。
19世纪的法国充斥着资本主义压抑的氛围，社会风气的败坏，造就了一大精神悲剧——“忧郁”。深陷阴暗与病态的人，仿佛置身于阴森可怖的牢狱：触手可及的，是无边的黑暗；身边围绕的，是肮脏的蜘蛛；耳边伴随的，是孤魂的咆哮；内心承受的，是灵车的辗压。这首诗中所描绘出的压抑的精神世界，真实而又令人心碎。
下面就请欣赏，剑桥大学法语系教授、英国国家学术院院士、美国人文与科学院荣誉院士克里斯多夫·普伦德加斯特（Christopher Prendergast）为我们朗诵诗歌Spleen的法语原版和英文翻译版，中文版由中国著名诗人与学者树才朗诵。

Quand le ciel bas et lourd pèse comme un couvercle
Sur l'esprit gémissant en proie aux longs ennuis,
Et que de l'horizon embrassant tout le cercle
II nous verse un jour noir plus triste que les nuits;
Quand la terre est changée en un cachot humide,
Où l'Espérance, comme une chauve-souris,
S'en va battant les murs de son aile timide
Et se cognant la tête à des plafonds pourris;
Quand la pluie étalant ses immenses traînées
D'une vaste prison imite les barreaux,
Et qu'un peuple muet d'infâmes araignées
Vient tendre ses filets au fond de nos cerveaux,

When the world seems a dungeon, damp and small,
Where hope flies like a bat, in circles reeling,

And dashing out his brains against the ceiling:
When trawling rains have made their steel-grey fibres
Look like the grilles of some tremendous jail,
And a whole nation of disgusting spiders
Over our brains their dusty cobwebs trail:
Suddenly bells are fiercely clanged about
And hurl a fearsome howl into the sky
Like spirits from their country hunted out
Who've nothing else to do but shriek and cry —
Then long processions without fifes or drums
Wind slowly through my soul. Hope, weeping, bows
To conquest. And atrocious Anguish comes

忧郁

天空低沉，像一个大盖子
压着烦闷已久的痛苦的心头，
从围绕整个盖子的地平线
它倒出比夜晚更忧伤的黑天；
大地变成一间潮湿的牢房，
“希望”在那里就像一只蝙蝠，
它怯弱的翅膀拍打着墙壁
又用脑袋去撞腐朽的天花板；
大雨洒下无穷无尽的雨丝
模仿大牢里的一道道铁栅栏
一群无声而又肮脏的蜘蛛
爬到我们的头颅深处来结网，
几座大钟突然猛烈地敲响
向天空抛出一阵可怕的咆哮，
就像无家可归的孤魂野鬼
开始哭泣着诉苦，没完没了。
－－长长的灵车，没有鼓乐，
从我的灵魂里缓缓驶过；“盼望”
落空了，哭泣着，可怕的“焦虑”
在我低垂的脑壳上插上黑旗。

树才，原名陈树才。诗人，翻译家。1965年生于浙江。1987年毕业于北京外国语大学法语系。1990至1994年在中国驻塞内加尔大使馆任外交官。2000年调入中国社会科学院外国文学研究所。著有诗集《单独者》（1997）、随笔集《窥》（2000）等。译作有《勒韦尔迪诗选》、《夏尔诗选》、《博纳富瓦诗选》（2002年）。
2008年获得法国政府颁发的“教育骑士”勋章。现居北京。
