Contemporary Poetry Reading
No.22

Untie
by Yang Biwei
Recited by James Coghill
I wish I could move a little,
move and right away
slowly, slowly unite.
The ropes slip from the body
skim over the fingertips, hemline, legs and toes.
As if a thawed stream,
or a weightless balloon,
lightly
Landed on the floor
It's time to untie
Among the sunny and bright petunias,
over the midnight radio, I sit, playing Guqin.
Untying must be a trip on the train
in the late spring,
As if lovers started to embrace and kiss after turning back on each other,
or the characters took off strokes,
held up a short-haired poem, making it
tail the rain, head the rain, side the rain
To fly freely.
Ah! It's so cozy——
to break free, and let it go.
It's damn cool
to ponder upon it, slightly drunk,
eyes closed,
dancing the thither Waltz
Waiting for a wind-whorled raging blizzard
With the music stopped suddenly,
As if I were by the darts raiding all around
strangled even tighter.
